What is God's long-term prophetic view for my marriage?

Genesis 1:26 captures the prophecy of the soon-to- be creation,

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

This passage is the vision statement for the creation of humanity. Selah! The passage suggests that God desired a family of beings on earth who were united in their thinking, much like the Trinity, and ones that would multiply the purpose and intentions of God on the planet.

But we see in Gen 2:20b states that after man had named all the other animals, there was an issue,

But for Adam no suitable helper was found.

The prophecy of Gen. 1:26 was begging to be fulfilled, but there was no helper to fulfil the prophecy. Thereafter, in God making Adam sleep, He chose the person suitable to fulfil this prophecy and brought her to him. When Adam saw the woman, he knew this was it, and he proclaimed,

“This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” Gen 2:23

Adam saw that Eve would fulfil the prophecy by the inspiration of God and He himself prophesied. How splendid!

This passage has rightly been used as a standard for marriages. It was the first marriage instituted by God, and it was perfect in its making. So let's consider why it is a standard and why it was a perfect arrangement made by God. Here are some few lessons to consider as we ponder on the magnificence of the this great marriage,

  1. God had to break Adam, a surgical operation that took place for Eve to evolve. Adam had to go under the knife.

Key Lesson 1: A true husband must be a broken man, scarred by God to build a home.

  2. Eve is not the creation of man. Eve is not merely a physical woman; Eve came because the man was broken, and God produced a great woman through a broken man.

Key Lesson 2: A man broken by God can produce a beautiful woman.

Key Lesson 3: A beautiful woman is the creation of God.

  3. Adam accepted the result of this surgical operation, allowed himself to share space with the woman and gave her a good name. And Eve also accepted the will of God in her new home. The unity, nakedness and openness of both Adam and Eve show the vision of becoming one flesh to fulfil the vision of God of Gen. 1:26.

Key Lesson 4: Both Adam and Eve accepted the will of God unconditionally.

God has a vision for your marriage. A prophecy (a plan) for what he wants to accomplish in your marriage, and this is not some complex work; it is a simple one: He wants to dwell in your home. God is looking for a new home. Will he find it in yours?

But for God to make your home his abode, He must break the man and make the woman, and both must accept His will for their lives.

Selah!
