You can make many plans, but the LORD’s purpose will prevail.

Yearly, as we reflect on the sacrifice at Golgotha, we remember one of the greatest stories of all time - the death and resurrection of Jesus. What we sometimes forget was that the journey to the cross was one of the greatest interruptions ever. Imagine some people saw Jesus on Thursday and by Friday morning he was dead - like what!!!! Bonkers! Imagine the depression that set into the hearts of the disciples, Peter who once said, “we have forsaken all and followed you…..” (Matt 19:27), was somewhat mesmerised and decided to move back to fishing along with the other disciples. All these happened because the life of Jesus was rudely interrupted. An interruption that was necessary for the salvation of mankind.

God seems to be a specialist in interrupting the lives of people for very good reasons, Abraham just wanted to stay with his extended family but God interrupted and said japa (go to a land I will show you).

Isaac wanted to go to Egypt but God interrupted him (Gen. 26:2). God’s interruption brought Isaac a blessing he never imagined.

David just wanted to just be a shepherd boy - easy life without paparazzi and behind the radar of royalty but God interrupted his young life with an anointing that got him on the wanted list of the crown. Eventually, God’s interruption made David the greatest king ever.

Gideon was in seclusion behind closed doors as a business man and God brought him out of hiding making him a leader who had the audacity to call forth an army of 32,000 - a man without military experience? God’s interruption made a general out of a civilian.

Solomon was not the first in line to the throne, his mom was likely the 8th wife of David (1 Sam. 18:27; 25:42-43, 2 Sam 3:3-5; 12:24) but his young life was interrupted to become King of Israel. How was he to fill the shoes of the king emeritus, David? Well, God’s interruption qualified him.

Joseph the father of Jesus just wanted to settle down quietly with Mary - he did not want a celebrity son, or a grand wedding. In fact even when he heard about the pregnancy he wanted to keep it a secret and end the relationship without raising dust (Mtt. 1:19). But Divine providence spoke otherwise, making Joseph foster Jesus - a son that wasn’t his with Matthew 1:25 speaking volumes,

But he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus.

What a man Joseph was! What great interruption!

Can God interrupt your life for good? If he does, please allow Him, He knows the end from the beginning. He wants to make something beautiful from your life - let Him! Let's your heart cry be like words of Solomon

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21 (NIV)

Shalom!
